The Estonian Institute for Futures Studies
The Estonian Institute for Futures Studies (EIFS) was founded on December 24, 1991, statute was approved by the Government of the Republic of Estonia on January 20 and the EIFS was registered at the Tallinn City Government on February 10, 1992.
According to the statute, the Institute is a non-profit organisation, i.e. it cannot divide its profit but can only use it for performing the functions as stipulated in the statute.
The EIFS was founded by follows individuals: (posts have been listed as of beginning 1997): Lembit Valt, Estonian Business School , professor; Erik Terk, director of EIFS; Mati Heidmets, Social Faculty of Pedagogical University of Tallinn, dean Jaak Hohensee, free-lance consultant of computer applications and management improvement.
The founders of EIFS also form the Council of the Institute, which is meant for the planning of the main directions of the institute's activities and their performance.
Projects concerning futures studies are performed both by full-time researchers of the Institute and outside experts involved in as had hoc research groups.
